What can I do to prolong the life of my asphalt parking lot or driveway?
We recommend sealcoating your asphalt within a year of the asphalt surface being laid in order to keep it in the best shape possible. Sealcoating prevents weather and wear and tear from degrading the asphalt surface over time. You should also have cracks filled annual to further prolong the life of your asphalt.
When should cracks in my asphalt be sealed?
There’s no reason to wait to have cracks in your asphalt sealed. The sooner they are sealed, the better moisture and other debris can be prevented from damaging the subgrade of your asphalt pavement. Cracks should be filled annually at minimum as part of your asphalt maintenance.
What are the benefits of asphalt vs. concrete?
Asphalt is more cost effective than concrete, and it takes less time to lay. Asphalt is also more appropriate for road construction, especially in rural areas, because it only requires surface maintenance. It is generally easier and less expensive to repair, and it is better at draining rainwater. Asphalt also tends to be less prone to cracking.
How soon can I drive on my new asphalt driveway or parking lot?
Freshly laid asphalt can immediately be driven on. However, it may take up to 3 days to fully dry.
How long does an asphalt driveway or parking lot last?
Asphalt is very durable. It can last, on average, 15 to 20 years. Proper routine maintenance prolongs the life of your asphalt surface.
